As you most likely know, Walt Disney offers a wide variety of resorts. If you take into consideration the resorts pool you may want to take a look at The Yacht and Beach Club Resorts. For many reasons these two resorts are fabulous. One thing that makes these resorts stand out among the rest is the amazing pool that brings these two resorts together. It really is much more than just a pool. Some would call it a mini-water park with all that it offers. This pool area encompasses 3 acres of space. So what is in this 3 acre pool which makes it so special to so many, and keeps them coming back year after year?
When you approach the pool one thing really stands out… you cannot miss it. It’s a life size ship wrecked water slide! Any child would be excited to see this! There isn’t an age limit or height requirement… so if you are game, go for it! This water slide is 230 feet in length and one of the highest at Walt Disney World! There is a cast member at the top of the slide to assist you. No need to worry! At the back end, base of the water slide you will see a smaller slide for the young children. You cannot see this from the pool area, so be sure to walk around and check it out. The little ones just love it!
Some of what is offered at Stormalong Bay:
Free flotation life vests for the children – these are some of the most comfortable around! Available at the Beach Shack
Free towels at pools entry, just ask! Be sure to return when you leave. There are many deposit bins (looks like a trash bin)
Kids area splash area and playground. Providing many opportunities of fun for the kids! As well, at the base of the pirate ship water slide is the kiddie pool complete with mini water slide for the kids! It is not viewable from the main pool so be sure to walk around to check it out!
Many lifeguards…and believe me, they are very alert and professional. I had one instance where they were needed and the guard was there before I could even get to the water. They take their jobs very seriously. I am quite thankful!
3 Whirlpool Spas. You will find a few large whirlpools at Stormalong bay. They are HOT! I wouldn’t suggest the children use them…but if you would like to relieve some aches and pains, or just want to lay and melt away this is the place to do just that! Heavenly!
A Lazy River. Rent a tube at the Beach Shack and circle around the lazy river. The lazy river and I are good old pals. It’s very relaxing!!
Fun activites are schedule daily. Be sure to check out the hotel’s bulletin to see what is scheduled for the day. You will see things such as dance parties or hula hoop contests. It’s always a fun time!
Sand Bottom Pool. You will notice all of the sand around parts of the pool (great for kids to build sand castles!) You will feel this wonderful sand on your feet when you are inside the pool. No concrete here! This is one of the nicest (I think) parts of this pool
2 Waterfalls – Wander over to one of the waterfalls. Another spa like experience, and very nice to look at as well!
Whirl Pool swimming area where the kids love to swim in circles (and adults too!). This section of the pool always seems to have people circling round and round. My kids (especially my son) just thinks it’s the best thing ever!
Along side of the pool you will see Hurricane Hannah’s. This is a quick service dining experience. Disney’s Dining Plan is accepted here. The best part of Hurricane Hannah’s is that they present the children’s meals inside a sand bucket. After your child completes their meal they may take the bucket home. You will see many of these buckets along the pool. Great for digging in the sand! If you are looking for table service be sure to check out Beaches and Cream Soda Shop which is just outside of the pool. I just adore the ice cream sundaes here! If you are feeling adventurous order the Kitchen Sink… it literally comes in a kitchen sink bowl and has a bit over everything from brownies, to icecream to cherries… you name it, it’s in there!!
You will also see Ship Shape Health Club and Lafferty Arcade near Beaches and Cream Soda Shop. Going to this pool really is an experience. You could stay the whole day and have everything available to you.
To visit this pool, called Stormalong Bay, you must be a guest at either the Yacht or Beach Club (including Beach Club Villas). Disney does monitor each person entering the pool. Be sure to have your room card or MagicBand on (they are waterproof!). If you are trying to pool hop chances are you will not be allowed inside.
