Which Beaches Resort Jamaica for You

by MTT Jody, Jody Clair

Beaches Resort is a family-oriented, all-inclusive resort with 2 locations in Jamaica. Not sure which one is better for your family? Let me help with some of the differences for you.

Beaches Negril
Beaches Negril

Ocho Rios and Negril are set in 3 Villages on the property. Each one has a different form of beach, Ocho Rios is a cove beach, more intimate and Negril is located on a seven mile stretch. Negril has 8 dining location to the 6 available at Ocho Rios.

They both offer Sesame Street characters and parades for children of all ages. They both offer wonderful children’s clubs starting as young as babies up to teens. These clubs are included in your cost, after hours they also offer additional care at a minimal cost if the adults would like a private dinner or to go dancing. Both locations offer waterparks for cooling off and having fun, but Negril’s is a little larger and includes a lazy river. Ocho Rios offers a beautiful golf course for your use that is included in your cost also.

One other main difference is that Ocho Rios offers Luxury and Concierge categories of rooms, but no butler service. Negril is offering all three categories.

No matter which resort meets the needs of your family, they both include all of your beverages, snacks and food. Not to mention all the additional activities such as scuba, snorkeling, tennis, hydro bikes and so much more to keep everyone busy. Need a little down time too? Be on the lookout for the hammocks and chaise loungers throughout the properties to relax with a good book or even a nap.

Triple Play at Sandals Resorts in St. Lucia

by MTT Jody, Jody Clair

St. Lucia is an island that is lucky enough to have three Sandals Resorts. Sandals Resorts are adult only, all-inclusive resorts. That means that all the food, beverages including alcohol and most activities are all included. Now why is it wonderful that St. Lucia has 3 resorts? Because if you stay in one, you have a pass to visit all three! That means activities, restaurants and beaches are tripled!

The first, is Sandals Grande St. Lucian, 4 pools and 4 whirlpools, 6 bars, 8 dining options and a beautiful mile long white sand beach.

The second, is Sandals Regency La Toc. Located on a half mile of white sand crescent shaped beach. This location has a 9 hole golf course, 3 pools and 9 dining options.

The third is a little more private and the smallest of the three, Sandals Halcyon Beach. This location’s beautiful beach is surrounded by lush green gardens. Two pools with swim up bars, 7 bars including a piano bar, 6 dining options and views of either beach, gardens or mountains.

All three offer a Red Lane Spa for an additional fee and amazing excursions to visit the island. But what is included? Golf, Scuba (if certified, if not you can get certified here), table tennis, volleyball, billiards, shuffleboard, tennis, fitness centers, live shows, karaoke, piano bar and live bands. What…you want more… how about canoes, kayaks, water bikes and snorkeling being included also! All this triples when staying at any of the resorts on St. Lucia making a total of 22 restaurants and unlimited activities day and night!

Recipe: Bahamian Conch Salad

by MTT Jody, Jody Clair

conch-salad-sandals-mtt-Jody-Clair

I recently had the chance to visit the Sandals Royal Bahamian in Nassau. Here is a quick recipe if you are looking for something tropical. They poured a shot of Ouzo over the top before serving since it is an adult-only resort. You can choose something fruity, such as Coconut Rum also. This is an All-inclusive resort so if you like it you can eat all you want! It says it serves one person, but you can also use it as an appetizer as in the photo.

Bahamian Conch Salad

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz conch
  • 6 tbs fresh lime juice
  • 1 ripe tomato, peeled, seeded and diced
  • 1/4 cup diced red onion
  • 1 cucumber, peeled, seeded and diced
  • 1/2 each — red, green, yellow peppers, cleaned and diced
  • 3 bird peppers (or jalapeno peppers), minced
  • 1/2 cup chopped parsley
  • 3 tbs olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation:
Pound the conch with a meat mallet to tenderize. Cut into 1/4-inch cubes and put into a non-reactive dish. Add lime juice to conch. Add all of the diced vegetables and salt and pepper. Mix. Cover and let the conch and vegetables marinate in refrigerator for 45 minutes. Just before serving, add a few dashes of hot sauce to dish and toss once more. Serve with lime wedges.
