The 2,400 square foot floating platform has 2 water slides – one is an enclosed tube-style corkscrew and one is a 140 foot long open slide – that end with a splash in the lagoon at Castaway Cay. Hang around on the platform and get soaked by the bucket dump! Children must be 38″ to slide on Pelican Plunge and are required to wear lifejackets. The slides drop you into approx. 6 foot deep water so be prepared! Access to the platform is purely by your own paddle power – this is a swim-up feature!
Pelican Plunge is part of a large renovation project on Castaway Cay in preparation for the Disney Dream which will set sail on January 26, 2011. This renovation also includes:
- Bigger family beach – Disney is adding approximately 700 feet to the family beach area, as well as a second lunch pavilion, a beach bar, and a new place to rent snorkeling and tubing equipment.
- Spring-A-Leak Splash Park – Designed to look like a beach house blown away by a hurricane, water pipes will spray and splash passersby.
- Scuttle’s Cove – Ariel’s seagull friend brings a new splash park for the little kids featuring pop jets, bubblers, and geysers.
- Private cabanas – Located both at the adult beach Serenity Bay (4) and the family beach (16), a total of 20 new private cabanas featuring 325 sq feet of relaxation bliss will make their home on Castaway Cay. I can get used to the fresh towels, lotions, lockable storage lockers, refrigerator and beverages, fresh water shower, private deck and chairs, and even a dining table!
- New massage cabins for Serenity Bay (3)
- Hide-Out pavilion – foosball, table tennis and billiards
